Deanna Jones

(1952-2025)

Deanna was a very energetic member of the Matsuyama Bonsai Society. She was an active potter since 1973.

A picture of her bonsai pots first appear in the April 2004 issue of MBS Silhouette monthly magazine. Deanna became a member in 1999, a member-at-large in 2005, and the secretary for MBS  2007-2011.

Her most notable contribution to our club was her willingness to teach us how to make bonsai pots. Gay Liddell and Deanna Jones first guided us through the process of making slab pots. It was not easy! But how we treasure those slab pots.

Pinch pots were easier and Deanna led us, sometimes with the help of Gay,  in  at least 3 clay workshops, the latest being at the past February meeting (2025) That workshop created intense concentration as she quietly guided us through the process.

If you needed a bespoke pot,Deanna was the one to contact and she created them with unique, artistic touches.

As her daughter-in-law said “Deanna will be remembered for her pure heart, kindness, strength, passion and the love she poured into her family, friends, art, and community”

The Matsuyama Bonsai community benefitted from her abilities and hopes to continue her legacy with the pots she helped us to create.
